Location: Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

Cairns is located on the North East coast of Queensland, Australia. The many dive operators based out of the city of Cairns are well positioned to conduct both day trips and live aboard charters to the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). The GBR is located in the Coral Sea and is the world’s largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching over 2,600 km.

A large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park which helps to limit human impact. It is of no surprise that with the environmental protection in place, the established infrastructure, focus on tourism and the availability of marine life that tourism generates $1 billion per year in economic activity for the region.

What Can You Expect to See at the Great Barrier Reef?

The Great Barrier Reef is known for its high level of biodiversity and migratory animals. Far too many marine animals have been sighted in the region to outline individually, however some include:

• Thirty species of whales, dolphins, and porpoises, including the dwarf minke whale, indo-pacific humpback dolphin, and the humpback whale.
• Large populations of dugongs.
• More than 1,500 species of fish have also been sighted including the Clownfish, Maori Wrasse, several species of snapper and coral trout.
• Seventeen species of sea snake live on the reef.
• Six species of turtles come to the Reef to breed – the green sea turtle, leatherback sea turtle, hawksbill turtle, loggerhead sea turtle, flat back turtle and olive ridley.
• Manta Rays.
• Moray Eels.
• Many common and many endangered species of sharks can be found in the GBR including; Hammer Heads, White and Black Tip Reef sharks, and so much more.

Awarded for being one of the Padi’s largest certifiers Pro Dive Cairns pride themselves in maintaining a personal approach. Having certified over 150,000 students over the last 27 years Pro Dive Cairns continue to work 'with their students through the course' rather than just ‘pumping them out’.

Dive Flag App were impressed to hear that Pro Dive Cairns replace all their training equipment every 12 months. This minimizes the chance of frustrating equipment failures, leaks or breaks. After each 12 month period the gear is serviced to near new condition and then sold to newly certified students saving them money.

Pro Dive Cairns have a retail shop as well as a purpose built training facility comprising of two purpose built heated pools, three separate classrooms, a medical office for dive medicals and on-site office facilities.

A large number of Pro Dive Cairn's customers come from overseas, so much so, that Pro Dive Cairns run  two classes a week in German and one class a week in Japanese. 

 

All three of Pro Dive Cairn's boats are identical. Each boat runs independent three day live aboard trips and has a capacity of up to 32 passengers. All 3 boats come fitted with Nitrox. Rooms on board are either equipped with twin single beds or a single double bed. There are ample bathrooms and showers on board for passengers and ample common areas to spread out. Divers enter the water via two platforms at the back of the boat that lead down to sea level making entry to and exit from the water very simple.
